Liverpool and Leicester City Similarities

There is luck and there is good fortune. Many think Leicester City were fortunate in many ways when they won the Premier League in 2016.
Leicester City’s success was the story of confluence, of things coming together at just the right time in just the right way. It was also a story about how good fortune can lead to success and how that success can build confidence. Confidence can lead to greater focus and determination and that leads to even more success.
It's also about hitting on the right system for the right set of circumstances which they did. With a system and a set of players that were able to execute a specific game plan and they did it successfully week on week.
Their system hinged on the fact that their opponents all assumed that they were the weaker team, giving up posession and allowing opponents to come on to them. They were able to maintain this throughout the entire season while the other top teams were struggling with consistency.
Three pacy attackers, Vardy, Mahrez and Albrighton were allowed to be free as N'Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater broke down attacks and got the ball forward to them quickly. With a fearsome defensive duo in Robert Huth and Wes Morgan in front of a strong keeper in Kasper Schmeichel they conceded little.
If you look how Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have gone about their challenge for the title this season there are striking similarities albeit they have spent money recruiting better players.
A fearsome speedy trio of Mane, Salah and Firminho have been backed by a ball winning midfield, rotated at times and by attacking full backs who get the ball forward at pace. Record signings at the back in Alisson and Van  Dyke have provided a stability previously missing.
Even when not at their best, the system of hitting the front three with the ball early, has provided dividends in the way of points that didn't seem likely.
