'Her's' was an Indie band from Liverpool, formed in 2015 composed of Stephen Fitzpatrick on vocals and guitar, and Audun Laading on bass guitar and backing vocals. Stephen was also a drummer but the pair used a drum machine with both members contributing to its programming. Audun came from Norway and Stephen from Barrow-in Furness, with both meeting at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts from which they both graduated in 2016. They had previously played in the rhythm section of Brad Stank's band, 'Sundogs' and initially performed to film comedic music videos which they then posted on You Tube. Sharing a brotherly bond with their love of 'Ariel Pink' and 'Mac DeMarco', they quickly made themselves known to the Liverpool gig-going public with their faces regularly cropping up on support bills around town.
They released their debut track, 'Dorothy', on the 7th of April 2016 and performed on the 2016 Green Man Festival Rising Stage. A nine-track compilation, 'Songs of Her's' was released on the 12th of May 2017. The compilation received four stars from 'The Skinny' with Thomas Smith writing for NME stating, "Her's are not a group to stand still. Each song they produce, from the lo-fi bedroom pop power of their debut track 'Dorothy' to the duo's equally melodic take on slacker-rock on 'Marcel', sees the Liverpool-based duo shift and float between sounds. Never really fitting into one genre, but somehow nailing whatever they end up doing."
The band later released their first full-length album, 'Invitation To Her's' on the Heist or Hit record label in August 2018 which was received with unanimous critical acclaim as the duo showed that the world they inhabit is a lot more weird and wonderful than it first seemed. Each track is its own little microcosm of oddness, unfolding like a brightly colored cartoon storyboard. 'Her's' were featured on Paste's list of 'The 15 New Liverpool Bands You Need to Know in 2018'. The duo had reached that stage where all the hard graft of those tours, in the back of a van around the UK circuit. were now paying off with bigger UK dates and a return date to Austin, Texas and an American tour to follow.
Tragically, on the 27th of March 2019, the duo and their tour manager were killed in a road accident whilst on tour in the United States. The band was on a 19-date tour of the States in support of their debut album, 'Invitation to Her's', which featured singles 'Love On The Line' and 'She Needs Him'. Their record label Heist or Hit announced the band's death in a brief statement on Facebook stating, "It is with overwhelming sadness that we regretfully inform you that Liverpool band 'Her's', Stephen Fitzpatrick and Audun Laading and their tour manager Trevor Engelbrektson tragically passed away in a road accident in the early hours of Wednesday, 27th March whilst travelling to a show in Santa Ana, California. We are all heartbroken. Having recently released their debut album 'Invitation to Her's', Stephen and Audun were on their second tour of North America playing 19 dates of sold-out shows to a fanbase that adored them. The pair were one of the UK’s most loved up and coming bands."
