Pool Of Sound - Red Rum Club

'Red Rum Club' were formed in 2016 after cousins Fran and Tom got together with Mike then with Simon and eventually Joe and all got in a practice room together to jam and play a few tunes, even though some of them had never even met. They were all aware of each other from playing in different bands but had no idea how it would turn out, but when they began playing a couple of tunes together there was an instant chemistry and they started writing their own songs straight away, evolving and expanding, finding their style. With Fran Doran on lead vocals, Tom Williams on backing vocals and guitar, Michael McDermott on backing vocals and guitar, Simon Hepworth on bass guitar, Joe Corby on trumpet and Neil Lawson on drums, 'Red Rum Club' was born, with the six all from the same part of Crosby, Liverpool. On a Wednesday they liked to get down to the local boxing gym and spar each other.

They admit to liking bands they're similar to, with the sound they stumbled across, and 'Echo and The Bunnymen' are at the top of that list. Having a 'Spaghetti Western' vibe in their tunes possibly comes from them listening to a lot of Ennio Morricone and having trumpet player Joe helps with that.
Their first single 'Everybody's Friend' was released on September 23 2016 with Liverpool based Rooftop Records. Recorded at Parr Street Studios they thanked Chris Taylor and Carl Hunter for believing in them and to Getintothis, Liverpool music's best-read webzine since 2007 and founders of The GIT Award, for premiering the track.

Their live shows are now widely regarded as some of the best on the circuit, perfectly showcased during their massive, head turning appearance on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury Festival 2019. Following sold out tours, routinely tearing crowds away from heavyweight festival headliners with their moreish hooks and limitless energy, they've fast risen from playing at beer soaked pubs and clubs to major venues – including selling out Liverpool’s O2 Academy during their maiden 12-month campaign for their debut album 'Matador'. Again, recorded at the infamous Parr Street Studios in Liverpool, with added production assistance from Chris Taylor, it hit No.1 on the iTunes Alternative Album chart on the day of release and was received thus; 'an ambitious debut from the Liverpool Six piece' - MOJO * * * * and 'Another great band from Liverpool' – Chris Hawkins, BBC 6MUSIC.

From Bucharest to Seoul to Glastonbury to the Isle of Wight, 'Red Rum Club’s' travels have condensed a decade of experience into two, wild years. They returned in 2020 with their first new music of the year in 'Eleanor', released on Modern Sky on Wed 24 June 2020. It's the live atmosphere of complete, energetic surrender to melody that has led 'Red Rum Club' to be nominated at the AIM Independent Music Awards 2020 for Best Live Act.
Fran Doran says: "It’s a perfect love song, sung to and about Tom William's partner, Eleanor. It was written as an aid to help her overcome an ongoing battle with mental health, she needed a ‘pick me up’ song. It’s a happy, summery ode to finding the right person who you just click with and can’t imagine being without."
As well as numerous headline tours of their own, culminating in the sold-out Liverpool O2 Academy, the band has enjoyed high-profile support slots with bands including 'The 1975'. Upcoming 2020 live dates included a main stage headline slot to close this year’s Sound City. In July 2020 they announced on their Facebook page, "Extremely excited to announce our new album, ‘The Hollow Of Humdrum’, is available to pre-order now!"
