'Columbia', formed in 2017, are the rock 'n' roll, guts 'n' glory, powerhouse five-piece from Liverpool. Formed by a
working-class group of mates with no music experience, they actually formed the band before they could play any instruments, just the obsession
of being in a proper Rock 'n' Roll band. Their line-up is Alex Sheppo on vocals, Jay Sweeney on lead guitar, Tom Comer on rhythm guitar, Jonny Echo on bass guitar and Jay Culkin on drums. Unimpressed at the state of
music at the time, and taking their name from the Oasis hit, they formed 'Columbia', and for a year their hard work and dedication saw them progress together musically and
lyrically as friends and as a band, enjoying every minute of it. Since their first gig in October 2017 they improved
massively and really coming into their own. They found their
direction with their music getting better and better with every gig and developed
into one of the best bands coming out of Liverpool, selling out gigs
across the North West and playing in smaller festivals up and down the
country. They appeared at Liverpool Sound City in 2017 and were booked again for 2018.
Their influences consist of bands like 'The Verve', 'Oasis', 'The Rolling Stones', 'Stone Roses' and 'The Beatles'. Having already made around 20 to 25 songs of their own, mostly rock 'n roll but with a mix of the softer melodies, they are proving to be the full package at gigs. The song lyrics are mostly written by bassist Jonny Echo and translated through the sound of front man Alex Sheppo, the melodic sounds and rifts coming from the guitars of Jay Sweeney and Tom Comer completed by the raw edge of drummer Jay Culkin. Working alongside producer, 'The Real People’s' Chris Griffiths, they completed seven live tracks to add to the 10 track demo album, released to the Music Industry Professionals, as requested by major labels, late in 2017. They have been hailed as 'The Best New Band in The North', and not just in Merseyside, as the word is spreading.
December 2018 saw them appearing at Studio2 Parr Street for their biggest set to date. After smashing it at again at Liverpool Sound City in 2019, the lads then headlined Phase One, Liverpool in September following their debut single 'BTG' (Back the Gaff) which was released in August 2019 and was followed two months later by 'Livin' A Lie' which was released in October 2019.
Following the release of 'This Life' in January 2020, and their impressive cover of 'Stereophonics' 'Mr Writer', their latest offering, 'Nothing Left For Me' was also released in 2020. Having had to push back their EP until later in the year, and as a thanks for all the recent support, they decided to release ‘Nothing Left For Me’ from the EP early.
