Pool Of Sound - Pale Rider

This Liverpool four piece got together in late 2016 before forming in 2017, taking their name from Clint Eastwood’s environmentally minded 1985 Western, 'Pale Rider'. With Ben Russell on vocals and guitar, Fran Codman on lead guitar, Louis Dutton on bass guitar and Sophie Thompson on drums they bonded over a love of Iggy Pop's album 'Fun House', 'The Black Angels' and wild space-rock. Their live performances see vocalist Ben Russell casting a sexual magnetism as he trades rhythm guitar for simple mic duties, Louis Dutton builds dense bass structures amid a gleeful Sophie Thompson's ever-louder percussive crashes and Fran Codman with his intensity on lead guitar swaps ingenuity and craft with pure primal fret-ruining pummels. Early live gigs alongside psych luminaries 'Lucid Dream' and 'Strange Collective' at Liverpool's Shipping forecast in May 2017 and the Captain Beefheart Festival in Liverpool, led to music blog Getintothis declaring them 'Liverpool's best new band' while Louder Than War tipped them as New Band of the Day, adding: "Pale Rider are uncompromisingly addictive, nail bitingly ambitious, they're creating future sounds for the Space Age of today." BBC Radio Merseyside and Amazing Radio followed suit with airplay of their debut single 'I Run On Rain'.

When Liverpool's iconic Parr Street Studios come calling you know you've pricked the interest of the city and its music fans. Recorded in one five-hour session by producer Chris Taylor ('The Coral', 'Blossoms'),  'I Run On Rain', released in October 2017, is a furious titan of rock & roll magic which has captured the imagination of the North West music press. It was an excellent introduction to the band on record, distilling their swirling sound into three and half minutes of fuzz-toned bass lines and alternately ebbing/roaring guitar textures, with the cut tracked in a single five-hour session.

Having already played a sell-out show at the Night & Day café in Manchester, Buyers Club and Sound in Liverpool, they supported 'Phobophobes' in March and played a special date at the 2018 Liverpool Sound City Festival. In September 2018 their Facebook page announced, "We are over the moon to announce our new single, 'The Move' will be released on 13/10 through Rooftop Records and we've teamed up with Harvest Sun Promotions for the launch where we take over The Shipping Forecast which will see us joined by two of our favourite sonic juggernauts, 'Strange Collective' and 'Feral Wheel'.

Then in August 2019 on Twitter - "Our brand new single 'Django' is available on all platforms for your listening displeasure!"
