Pool Of Sound - Yammerer

Although no members actually come from Liverpool, the Liverpool-based punk outfit 'Yammerer' is a band with something to say, and a distinctive way of saying it. Consisting of Jason Corbett, 'JC', on vocals, Gajo Paco on guitar, (replacing Garvin Cosgrove), Steve Dee on guitar, Connor Simpson on bass guitar and Jason Dugdale on drums, the quintet make a boisterous, snarling brand of music born in the miasmic swamps of improvisational psychedelica and hammered into a kind of incandescent rage by the ridiculous world around us.

Originally rehearsing without a front man, a Gumtree advert for a 'Can/The Fall type singer' resulted in Jason joining the band. After about 10 unremarkable responses, one email came through and it was JC saying, "I can do that". He says, " after my old band, 'Spliff Priest', had just dissipated I didn't know what to do. I rang round everyone I knew to see if there were any bands going and there just wasn't. I looked on Gumtree, saw the ad and thought: wow, I can definitely do that because it was what I had been doing anyway."

Yammerer are known for entrancing audiences with their high energy performances and intentional improvisation on stage. Since emerging on the Liverpool music scene they have gone on to support acts such as 'Crack Cloud', 'Big Lad', 'Warmduscher' and 'Duds'. They have also earned spots on festivals such as Sounds From The Other City, Sound City, Radio 6 Closing Party, Thresholds Festival and the Smithdown Road Festival. There is also an unpredictable element to the band, who have been known to ask another band to perform on stage in their place, e.g. at Sound City, and have a frontman who goes under a number of aliases. Jason, JC, or J George JC.

May 2019 saw the release of their debut single, 'Poisonous Reptilian Colleagues & Co' on the Chester based Restless Bear Records, which combined the dark prophecies of Nick Cave with 'The Fall’s' caustic charm. It showcases a manifestation of 'Yammerer's' world, one that is blooming with ideas of escapism and one that evidently benefited from their two-day recording session at Elevator Studios. There followed their audacious, boisterous and snarling sonic adventures on their debut EP, 'Reality Escape Resort' released toward the close of 2019.

After receiving praise from Clash Magazine, John Kennedy of Radio X and Radio 6's Tom Robinson, 'Boa Constrictor' is their first bit of new music in 2020, following on from their excellent debut EP and the RSD 2019 cassette only single, 'Donnay Death Housing Cryssis', which is now out on Bandcamp. Their current line-up is detailed as Jay Sunsea on vocals, Gajo Paco on guitar, Steve Dee on guitar, Conchur Macshim on bass guitar and Perm Doner on drums. Whether those names are actual is your guess but what isn't in doubt is that 'Yammerer' is a band to behold.
