When The Bell Tolled

After weeks of 'what if's' and 'maybes', Everton had a perfect chance to press for European football. Apart from Yerry Mina, they had their strongest team available, playing at home against a team that had been relegated 5 weeks earlier. But Everton did what Everton do - losing 1-0.

This week has been to the Premier League what Devon Loch did in Horse Racing, the Brownlee brothers did in a Triathalon and Derek Redmond did in the 400 metres in the Olympics. Imperial Manchester City had demolished PSG in Europe and then conceded three against Newcastle United. Manchester United were thrashed at home by a Liverpool side with a makeshift defence, a Liverpool side who then went to struggle against already relegated West Brom with their goalkeeper scoring in the 5th minute of 4 added minutes of injury time. Chelsea looked to have been transformed under Tuchel before losing at home to Arsenal and then to Leicester City in the FA Cup Final. It was good to see the joyous scenes of the Leicester City players, staff and fans though.

Ironically this was the week before fans were allowed back into grounds, although whether a lot will be interested now is up for debate. The truth of the matter is that this season Football is no longer the game we are used to watching. No crowds, VAR curious decisions, too much football without realistic breaks and fans now not understanding the rules of the game. Not to mention the farce that was the ESL and the lack of serious penalties to follow what was an attempt to further ruin the game.

We can only wonder what the future holds, but the game has certainly changed.
