Pool Of Sound - Hushtones

'Hushtones' is a retro alt-pop band and one of Liverpool's hottest new live acts, with nostalgic feels, soaring melodies and a smooth blend of male and female voices. Their take on pop music has been described as punchy and powerful with nods to 'Fleetwood Mac' and 'Sunflower Bean' and inspired by the likes of 'The Beatles' and Kate Bush. Fronted by Martha Goddard and Mick Campbell, the two lead songwriters, alongside Caitlin McPaul on bass and backing vocals, Joe Dillon, guitar and backing vocals were joined by drummer Abraham Tesfachristos in the summer of 2018. The music was now given a punchier rock'n'roll energy, followed by newest member Joe Dillon providing a blues-rock feel. All of these elements combined allow 'Hushtones' to create a unique sound, a combination of retro feels and modern elements with songs ranging from chill-pop to punk rock to psychedelic alt-pop. Mick says, "I started it all about a year before Martha joined the band – I did all the song writing and fronted it, but it got to a point when I decided it was time that I needed someone to be creative with and share the load. We were working together in a little cafĂ©, when I found out she could sing – I suppose it all properly started from there really. I knew Caitlin from school, Joe from the pub…" Martha adds, "Joe was the last to join, and I think that was the point where it started to click and feel like a proper band." Joe adds, " To be honest, I already liked the band and it was a very easy move, as we were mates – it felt like quite a natural progression."

Their music has received regular air play from BBC Music Introducing resulting in festival and live show bookings as well as an invitation to Media City to record a filmed acoustic session. They released their debut home-made EP in late 2018, selling out their launch show in Sound Food and Drink in Liverpool. After the success of the EP, they were given the opportunity to record new music in a studio in Glasgow with Ciaran McIntyre of 'Electric Kitchen'. They have now released a new double a-side featuring the songs 'Heart On Your Sleeve' and 'Open Your Eyes' with 'Heart On Your Sleeve' receiving interest and airplay from BBC Radio Merseyside and others. The song has been described as: "nearly four and a half minutes of melting together a changing love dynamic with a compulsion to sway." A song about supporting a partner to the point where they feel they've outgrown you and the feeling of frustration and irony that comes with this." 'Open Your Eyes' is a tranquil companion to 'Heart On Your Sleeve' a song about enjoying the moment and not wasting the precious time we have been given doing meaningless repetitive tasks. Written by Mick Campbell with help from Martha Goddard, this has always been a sentiment of the two lead song-writers.

Their follow up double A-side featured two tracks produced by the legendary Steve Levine in his Liverpool studio. 'The Birds Are Coming' is a rousing and dynamic track battling with frustrations and 'Keep Running' is a pacey and powerful song for summer. A hopeful and harmonious fist in the air. One of Liverpool's hottest new live acts isn't letting the inability to play gigs stop them though and they've announced their brand new covers EP, 'On Bricks' as well as the debut radio play of their new single 'Wild!' on Dave Monks' BBC Radio Merseyside - BBC Music Introducing which will be was released on the 26th of March 2021. Chris Hawkins was thanked on their Facebook page for giving their latest single 'Sinking' it's debut play on BBC Radio 6 Music on the 6th of July 2021 and where they also
revealed the art work for their forthcoming album, 'Greeting From The Other Side'.
