Pool Of Sound - The Blurred Sun Band

Another music treat from Liverpool, the 'Pool Of Sound', is 'The Blurred Sun Band' who are not your average band. With Dan as lead singer, he is joined by another Dan on bass guitar, Charlie on guitar and Simon, aka 'Sizzle G', on drums. With Dan and Simon knowing each other a long time and going to University together they were joined by bassist Dan and began as a trio around 2015, mainly focused on drinking 'carlsbergs'. They then found Charlie advertising his services, who was a friend of the bassist Dan. They are a band that play psych-jazz but they are actually really good. Jazz has never been so accessible as it is now and that is all thanks to this weird group of four lads who are playing out of the ordinary music. It's intense, a very obscure spectacle and incredibly good. A mix between Progressive Rock, Jazz and Psychedelic, they have moved onto actually playing music.and have supported the likes of 'Once and Future Band' and 'Vieux Farka Touré'. Lead singer Dan notes his influences as the rock band 'Yes' and a lot of Jazz music.

At the Jacaranda in 2016 Megan Smith ( @meganlosmith1 ) saw them and wrote, " The four piece band set off a melodic explosion during their set. Their songs consisted of psychedelic, jazz and rock sounds all perfectly blended into one tasty, musical cocktail. The first track began with an electrifying guitar riff and some euphoric symphonies. As if this wasn’t enough to get my attention they surprised me with a synthesizer, warping the lead singer’s voice into sounding melancholic yet totally uplifting."

St. Bride EP ( Expanded )

In 2017 Eggy Records released their EP, 'St. Bride (Expanded)'. Bido Lito magazine described it, " this jazzily psychedelic soup of tracks in time for you to bask in their warm glow while festive madness whirls around you. More akin to the gloopy melodies of Chilean dreamweavers 'Holydrug Couple' than the phased guitars of 'Tame Impala', 'The Blurred Sun Band’s' sound is redolent of a new strain of psychedelia that is stretching the form further from its classic origins and mashing it up with new styles – in this case, more hip hop and jazz fusion elements". They told the magazine, "When we started out we were mainly influenced by all the Australian psych rockers like 'Tame Impala' and 'King Gizzard', but we were always turned on by jazz and hip hop and that influence has started to show a bit more, especially in our live shows." The new-ish label Eggy Records are responsible for bringing this EP to fruition, and have high hopes for even more to come from the band.

At The Jacaranda in 2018 Getintothis music blog witnessed the band who, in their opinion, were able to switch the direction of a song faster than you could keep up. Alternating tempos meant their set was far from boring, as soon as you start to settle into a song something new would happen, forcing you to sit up and take note. Twangy, warped guitars meld together with a light beat, the occasional brass interlude underneath a coat of silky vocals. 'The Blurred Sun Band' embrace jazz and take it on an existential journey, and the product is what we imagine blues on LSD might sound like. Having released ''The Grass Has Never Looked Greener', on their Facebook page on the 13th of March 2018 they announced, " FAIRWELL SIMON!

Simon heads off on his travels tomorrow and we're going to miss him dearly. #:( He is a truly lovely, kind boy and we wish him the best of luck in all endeavours. We did manage to get some recording out of him before we ship him off so look forward to that in the near future!"

Phase One July 2019

At Phase One in July 2019, fresh from making their name with a host of support slots, they have now built their following from ground level and now are moving on to headline slots in bigger places. In February 2019, the band had rented out the Southport Sea Cadets building for 3 days. They made the most important 25ish-mile journey of their young lives, to record the greatest song ever written, with their trusted friend and collaborator Thomas Benson.
Having erected a studio inside the old church building's walls, they proceeded to agonisingly produce 5 minutes of music. There is surely more to come from this innovative band.
