G.O.A.T. Boreham Wood

Long-serving utility player Dave Hatchett holds Boreham Wood's appearance record with over 600 appearances. Previously with Enfield, Dave joined Boreham Wood in July 1985 and was ‘Player of the Year’ a record six times. He played in defence and midfield for The Wood, even deputising as goalkeeper on occasions, and still also scored over 80 goals. Granted a well-deserved testimonial in 1994-95, featuring prominently as Boreham Wood won the Isthmian League First Division title that season, he helped them reach the FA Cup second round proper in two consecutive years and win the Isthmian League Cup in 1996-97. He was an Isthmian League Cup finalist again in 1998-99, making a club record 714 appearances. He remains currently Boreham Wood’s longest serving player. Dave has been voted "Player of the Year" on a record six occasions, and was granted a well deserved Testimonial in 1994/95.

On the 1st of January 2000 against Hungerford Town in the Ryman League Cup, Boreham Wood's stalwart Dave Hatchett completed yet another milestone in his remarkable career, as he made his 700th appearance for the club - only 39 of which have been sub appearances in his 13 years at Meadow Park in a 3-1 victory.

As a testament to the superb facilities and structure in place at the club, chairman Danny Hunter lined up a mouthwatering fixture list to pre-empt the season's assault on the Southern League Division One East title. One of these games was with Charlton Athletic who sent a squad to do battle with a Boreham Wood Legends XI. Dave Hatchett, Wood's longest serving player in their 57-year history, joins the Legends. In previewing the game it was said, "The title 'Legend' is perhaps most fitting for Dave Hatchett, who will be making his 715th appearance for Wood at the age of 40 on Wednesday night, and still plays at Southern League level for rivals Arlesey Town."
