Pool Of Sound - Dan Caine

Dan Caine was born in 1988 in Wirral and first picked up the guitar at age 15, inspired by a lot of alternative music, as well as by his own father who played the classical guitar. He had no formal musical training or tutoring, except for being taught a few basic chords by his father. He realised early on that making music was a great way of expressing himself and began recording his experimentations as a hobby from early on, though back then his recording process and gear was quite unsophisticated. Even so he discovered after a while that he really enjoyed the recording and mixing process, and began experimenting with layered, ambient guitar soundscapes. This approach he found to be a great way of expressing himself and was able to capture his emotion and feelings in quite a profound way. Eventually, in 2013, he published his first album, 'Ephemeris', which was a collection of some of his best ambient pieces that he had made over the previous years. Then he managed to release five albums, with 'Solace' coming out in April 2016, as his music evolved seeing him primarily drawn on influences from ambient, post-rock and new-age music. This beautiful, melodic music will touch your soul and put a smile on your face as he uses powerful, layered guitar melodies to create an atmosphere of an intense range of thought and emotion as he explores the depths of the human psyche. His music is a free-flow of subconscious urge and instinct; a deep dive into the unhindered world of the Id. Much like a fine wine, these meditative works expose more and more of their depth with each listen, and like a mood ring, they morph and change to reflect the state of the listener perceiving them. Dan’s music is also richly melodic and is layered with vibrant textures, created primarily from his collection of guitars, producing brooding atmospheres and serene sonic landscapes. He then began working with the US singer / songwriter Hailey Rose, later to become his partner,  on the Lunar Sol two-piece project which resulted in the release of an an EP in June 2016.

Described as 'The Jackson Pollock' of ambient post-rock, Dan describes himself as someone 'who creates atmospheric, soulful and emotive ambient music'. A master of breaking music down to its most basic elements, and arranging them in a work of abstract purity, enables the listener to explore their own connections to the sound and engage with the piece, less as a listener, more as an observer of aural art. His music is broad and guiding, yet flexible and undemanding, allowing the observer a space with which to process their own humanity within it. His 2020 album release 'Rivers' was about the absolute need for cool clean rivers and the importance of nature, prematurely before world leaders finally reached an agreement at the COP26 UN Climate Conference in Scotland. With this album Dan states that the elixir of life is originated deeply in rivers and he has produced this opus for expressing the coolness and clearness of rivers all over the world. Through this creation, he plays his ambient soundscape very smoothly and cleanly as his guitar playing launches quite simple, slow tempo, repetitive phrases but full of enthusiasm and passion. Sounds like slightly garage-y desert-y sound temperature would mean dry and tough climate conditions nowadays. The third track, 'Long Profile' has a bit depressive, tragic moments here and there as his guitar cries deeply and shouts hoarsely, as if it is calling for help to people all over the world. All living creatures on the earth are facing a crisis, and all human beings should stand up for keeping the earth safe and sound.

On the 10th of December 2021 he announced on Facebook, "My new EP, 'Into The Mountains', was released a week ago today, and has been getting some good reactions from listeners so far. I think a lot of people are craving a respite in nature from all the chaos in the world. The cover picture from this EP was taken in The Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee - a beautiful place that I am fortunate to live near. I regularly enjoy going up into those mountains, and a lot of my recent music has been inspired by the wilderness here."
