Pool Of Sound - The Bo Weevils

Back in the day in Cantril Farm, five young Weevils Ste, Andy, Chas, Ian and Gav were just another handful of hopeful musicians looking to start a band of their own and make their imprint on music. Growing up in the same area a few of the lads started jamming together and after a while they started to get the hang of playing their own instruments. In 2008 this up-and-coming Liverpool band from Stockbridge Village, 'The Bo Weevils' beat off hundreds of hopefuls to be crowned Scouse Factor winners. This meant opening up at that year's Summer Pops when 'The Farm' played their first hometown gig in more than 15 years at the ECHO Arena on Friday the 18th of Friday. Since then this ballsy rock/blues/funk band have been making waves on the Liverpool music scene, and over the years have played at some huge venues and events including The Liverpool Echo Arena, 02 Academy, Creamfields, Williamson Square Festival, The Grand National, Croxteth Park Festival and the world famous Matthew Street Festival where Liverpool Council chose the band's track 'Keeps Me' to play over an app for the event.

Their line-up now comprises of Gavin Richards on lead vocals and drums, Andy Holland on bass guitar and vocals, Ste Bow on rhythm guitar, ukelele, gob iron and vocals and Ian Barton on lead guitar, keyboards and vocals (with Gary 'Chas' Owens on guitar, gob iron and vocals no longer with them). To say these lads have 'been there and done that' would be an understatement. The band have definitely put their fair share into the music scene of the city they call home. Not only have they released an abundance of quality material, they've also run their own night called 'Soul Shakin' where Miles Kane came and supported them, not to mention 'The Coral' and 'The Farm' lads deejaying there. They also put on their own special events from the practice room they used, which also happened to be Liverpool's first cannabis/coffee shop 'The Chilling Rooms', which unfortunately had to be closed down. They've also supported some of Liverpool's most famous sons including 'The La's' and The Coral' and have been jamming with Sir Paul McCartney!

After having been on a hiatius for a little while they returned in October 2020, very much back in the saddle, with an amazing new single 'Sister'. The track features a light funk percussive rock sound with a slight Mersey Sound thrown in for that added originality. Never skipping a beat and always priming that hook, 'The Bo Weevils' prove their prowess as songwriters and tightness as a band. We're certainly glad they're back with 'Sister', a Scouse anthem, and long may they continue!
