'SCREENTALK' is a five piece indie rock band, made up of Sean Currie on vocals, Sam Varney on guitar, Stuart McNaughton on Keys/Synth, Gianpaolo
Carnevali on bass and Dan Moore on drums. The seeds of the band were sown when Dan and Sam were at a pre-season friendly match between Liverpool FC
and Bradford City FC in 2019. During pre-match beers, Sam's work
colleague turned to Sam and Dan and asked if they had started a new band
after the collapse of a previous project – all three members silently
pondered the idea and each foresaw the potential for a new project.
A month later they began writing and arranging songs in Vulcan
Studios, Liverpool. Soon after came the arrival of Stuart, with a
plethora of synth sounds that would fuse together with the crunch and
grit of a distorted guitar, to define the backdrop sound of 'SCREENTALK'. Gianpaolo joined after replying to an online advert, but spent much of
2020 in Italy due to the pandemic and travel restrictions before returning
in May 2021. Sam and Dan have previously worked closely with producer, and Zuzu guitarist Kurran Karbal, who agreed to produce the band's first two
singles. With a sound packed with the thrashing drums and electrics found in
classic rock, with new-wave synths and Sean's mesmerizing vocals woven
within, it's a sound that is truly distinctive, and has put a marker on
the band as ones to watch. Fusing the stadium-sized anthemia of 'The Killers' to 'White Lies' with the
colourful character of their native Merseyside scene, the band make a sound
that demands to be heard like destiny calling and a work ethic that won't quit, and they are poised and ready to take the music scene by storm. The first step of what promises to be a remarkable journey
was their debut single, 'Mountain Soda'.
Mixing equally impactful lyrics with an electrifying indie-rock sound it was produced by Kurran Karbal at his recording studio in Birkenhead. Influenced by the likes of 'The Killers', 'White Lies', 'Muse', 'Radiohead ' and 'Foals', 'SCREENTALK' has been seen playing gigs all across the UK, including venues such as Jimmy's and The Jacaranda in Liverpool, Hope and Anchor in Islington, London and Halton Music Festival. Next they released an enlivening new single, 'Amplified', swiftly following their amorously received debut single 'Mountain Soda', which is a high voltage rush of frenetic pace and edge-of-your-seat intensity. Written in just one day at the band's Merseyside practice room after a lightning bolt of spontaneous inspiration, the track materialised as one of the first tracks the band ever wrote together.
In February 2022, following their indie-pop track 'Amplified', the lads adopted a more flowing and mellow sound in 'Escape'. Recorded once again with Kurran Karbal, the track has a melodic arrangement bringing together old-school 80s synth-pop and modern-day indie-rock making it suitable for all audiences. The combination of pounding drums, dynamic guitars and smooth synths weave a sonic tapestry with a somewhat hazy ambience. While the melody is spine-chillingly intoxicating, it is the poignancy of the lyricism that shows the band's depth. They say the song focuses on the things that make us feel unsafe at night, something all of us have considered at some point. The inner turmoil, fear, desperation and angst are clear in the instrumentation; however, Sean's vocals seem to add an extra something to the track. His moving vocals exude fragility, sensitivity and a haunting sentimentality that hits you right between the eyes leaving you terrified but also calmed in a strange sense. Described by XS Noize and Rock n Load Magazine as "Liverpool’s latest indie darlings", 'SCREENTALK' is already building a loyal following. The online music site, Giglutz described it as 'This Feeling Track of the Day'. Grooving indie hooks and shimmering synths from Liverpool.
