Pool Of Sound - The Jagz

Formed in 2017 on the Wirral peninsular, indie/psych band 'The Jagz' have been described as re-imagining the Merseybeat sound while capturing more modern crazes such as 'Mersey surf'. Frontman Paddy Cross said, "It started from nothing really. I had a guitar and was asked if I fancied being in a band. It was very chilled out at first." The band all grew up together, with four of them going to St John Plessington Catholic College in Bebington, and started by jamming together as a "bit of a mess around". But a year later they signed with a record label and recorded their first few tracks after spending their first year locked away working hard on their debut single,'21:27' which was released in that summer. Then Radio Clatterbridge were pleased to give 'The Jagz' their first radio play of their song 'This Man Never Cries', released in November 2018 - a tune about life and overcoming sadness. Before signing to Yano Da! Records, the band had seen success with these early singles '21:27' and 'This Man Never Cries', being championed by BBC Radio Merseyside’s Dave Monks.

With echoes of Tame Impala and Mac Demarco reverbrating within their sound, 'The Jagz' have re-imagined the Merseybeat sound of old, casting a new mould for the 21st century. Tropical guitar lines grooving to punchy rhythm sections, all set to the tone of poignant lyricism demonstrate their grasp of constructing quality pop songs. It appeared that Paddy, Malone, Brad, Doyle & Macca were set to take 2019 by storm with their first EP, 'The Things You Do' released in January 2019.

Cathedral Dreams

Released on the 8th of November 2019, their second EP, 'Cathedral Dreams' saw 'The Jagz' host an epic launch party at Baltic Triangle venue District on Friday the 13th of December, as they planned an assault on the music scene. Four new tracks that showcased the variation and quality of the band as they made the room stand up and listen with intent. The tempo on the opening track, 'Cathedral Dreams' was the quickest to date as the Wirral five-piece presented their 'poppy' side sounding very early 'Coral'. They describe this EP as being, "based on the notion that life should be about peace, love and good times. Laugh at the bullshit and keep rolling on". The message and vibe is that this EP is an exploration of that feeling, the importance of chasing the dream and rolling with the punches during testing times. In October 2021 they supported 'Cheap Thrills' at The Arts Club, Liverpool and a review said, "this night they played to the whole room. A clear sign of progression. They played a supremely confident set of songs that encompassed aspects of psychedelia, soft rock, and Americana, all topped off with a big dollop of surf guitar. It was immensely pleasurable listening. 'The Jagz' set was relaxed and playful and highly enjoyable. Their set included the title song from their 2020 EP, 'Cathedral Dreams', a track well worth 3 minutes of your time." In January 2022 on their Facebook page they posted, " A clip from a show we did in October 2021 for @ldmfestival.

A glimpse into a previous line up and the end of an era for us as a band, however new music is on the way and we are expecting a busy year."
