Pool Of Sound - Honey Motel

Liverpool band 'Honey Motel', formed in 2020, produced fine work in their debut year with 'Weekends' and 'Madeline'. Then they consisted of Matthew Walker on lead vocals. Sam Meredith on lead guitar and keys, Pablo Robinson on drums and Jack Hughes on bass guitar. Lead songwriter Sam and Matthew have been mates and playing music together since they were 17/18 and started out playing some covers and just jamming out together before they met a bassist and drummer and started writing some music. After a while they split ways with their bass player and drummer and met Pab and Jack and started to properly try to write some music. They created a band named 'LOLA' and played some good gigs and had some decent music on streaming sites, but after a while, in November 2019, they decided to rebrand themselves with a new image, a new name and some new music. Over the years they had bumped into Jack and Lew to complete the line-up with Lew Fogg being the most recent addition, joining in October 2022 to replace Pablo. Returning after a brief hiatus, they dropped two singles, 'When We Die, We Die' and 'The Matinee', while bringing their sound alive on stage at a debut headline show at Kazimier Stockroom in their home town. These tracks showcased to audiences the band's ability to craft a unique brand of pop with a psychedelic infusion.

Now the Liverpool-based quartet still continue to impress with their own brand of pop-focused indie rock wrapped in a psychedelic aesthetic. Influenced by a range of artists such as Mac DeMarco, Rex Orange County, Wallows, Sundara Karma, Declan McKenna, Haim, and 'Kings of Leon', 'Honey Motel' bring a vibrant energy to their music that connects with a diverse audience. Their now unique sound, built on melodic synths, compelling guitars and expressive vocals, has quickly become a trademark 'Honey Motel' experience.

Their recent single ‘Are You Coming With Me?’ is a vibrant reflection on the constant pursuit for more and working to be important and revered instead of fulfilled. A glowing combination of soaring synths, steady drums, twinkling electric guitars and funk-drenched bass lines create an infectious atmosphere that is bursting with light. Above all this comes the empowered melancholy of the lead vocal, finding joy and wonder in the downcast sentiment. With it the band invites listeners into their world of melancholic glitter and rhythmic energy. Starting off with the muted patter of drum shots, the song bursts open with bright guitar rhythms, splashing drums and synth leads before dipping the arrangement down for the lead vocals. With performances supporting bands like 'Gathering of Strangers' and 'Sundara Karma', they show no signs of slowing down. The release of 'When We Die, We Die' marked another step in their upward trajectory, cementing their place as one to watch.

On their Facebook page they said, "big thanks to BBC  Introducing Merseyside for opening their last few shows with “are you coming with me?”
the non music video short film about it is out on youtube now 🪐
