Pool Of Sound - Daisy Gill

As a Liverpool X-Factor hopeful she was kept waiting for nearly 10 hours before being told to go home without being auditioned. Kirkdale born Daisy Gill, then 18 years old, said it was in 2016 that she was asked by the show's producers to audition for the talent show after they saw her at an open-mic night in Huyton. Thankfully this did not deter her and as the Liverpool music scene often brings to mind guys with guitars, albeit very very good guys with guitars, it is always nice to find that the city is also a breeding ground for artists away from indie vibes. Coming out with great pop / R&B tunes is Daisy with a sound reminiscent of so many great female artists of the late 90s early '00s. She is the music industry back to front, singing, writing and producing, all in between studying sound engineering and vocals at BIMM in Manchester, she has also worked backstage at West Holts stage at Glastonbury.

The then unsigned, Liverpool based singer-songwriter returned with a new single, 'Nothing Out Of Me', which  follows on from her earlier 2021 release 'Flying High' which saw a change in sound for her, as she began to show her fearless attitude on more personal topics – with this release proving she was not slowing. Playful pianos and a charging trap rhythm here provide the backbone for the feisty, assertive lyricism Daisy delivers, focused on her experience of misogyny in the music business – a topic she covers confidently. As the track progresses, it is clear that she is leaning quite heavily on her contemporary’s with obvious sonic influences of Anne Marie, and an independence reminiscant of Taylor Swift. 'Nothing Out Of Me' shows maturity and strength as Daisy fights discrimination being a strong, confident and intelligent women. She adds this to her diverse discography as she looks set to propel herself into the spotlight with her signature piano-driven pop, having played in big places like the Royal Albert Hall and killed it at Liverpool Pride, Glastonbury, and more.  Her success shows her major talent and in May 2023 she released her empowering debut EP, 'It’s Not You, It’s Them.', based on the growing pains of being in your 20s and managing friendships, relationships and everything associated with adulting. Short from the femme fatale style, Daisy maintains this self-sufficient woman attitude throughout the songs, which is needed for women to survive in this world and sass and confidence are on full display here.

Her song 'Don't Wanna Know', released in October 2023, shows how synth-pop can still be powerful today and makes a sound that's nostalgic but also fresh. Here she creates a dreamy 80s vibe that reminds you of 'The Weeknd' or Taylor Swift's 1989 album. It shows her skills as a songwriter as it explores complicated feelings about uncertainty, painting a vivid emotional picture.  Her vulnerable but resilient voice takes the listener on this introspective ride. Her emotional but strong voice stands out as she's clearly worked hard on her singing and the production is hypnotizing.  A pulsing, retro synth under Daisy's lyrics makes a mood that's dreamy and haunting at the same time.  The melodies stick in your head and the rhythm keeps you moving to the song's emotional flow. Daisy said, said: "I wrote this song in a time when I was feeling really unsure of where my life was going and somehow it ended up being a break up song that I never knew I needed to write, its like I almost manifested this time in my life before it happened because when you’re in love its supposed to be this fun, exciting time but I couldn’t understand why I felt so sad."

It appears as though the sky really is the limit for this talented songstress.
