Sarah White was born on the 21st of March 1969 in Liverpool and her first acting role was when she played Bev McLoughlin in Brookside from 1993 until the show ended in 2003. In the 'soap' she married Ron Dixon and later became known as Bev Dixon. Things seemed to go smoothly after Ron and Bev's affair, but in 1993, she gave birth to her son Josh - who was in fact Ron's grandson. The baby's father was actually Ron's son, Mike - and it wasn't until 2003 that Ron and Bev married and left the Close for a new life with Josh. Sarah and Jack McMullen, who played Josh, won the British Soap award for Best On-Screen Partnership for their parts in Brookside in 2003.
After Brookside, Sarah spent time in the theatre, with her most notable role being in the production 'Mum's the Word' and also the Liverpool comedy 'The Salon' alongside Rebeckah Vaughan. 'Mums the Word' is described as being a side-splittingly funny collection of stories about motherhood with six actresses playing different characters with very different attitudes to motherhood and so 90 percent of the show is done in monologues. Sarah played the part of Debbie and toured for months with Rebecca Wheatley (Casualty), Kim Hartman ('Allo 'Allo), Maureen Nolan (The Nolans), Polly Highton (Brookside) and Julie T Wallace (The Life and Loves of A She-Devil), and it is said to hang the dirty nappy laundry of maternity out to dry! Other theatre work includes 'The Morris' at Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, a hilarious and powerful play about friendship, motherhood and pom poms and 'The Netherley Hillbillies' at the Royal Court. a brilliant comedy about what happens when life-changing money lands in your lap. There is also 'The Salon' at St Helen's Theatre Royal and of course the obligatory panto at Christmas in Liverpool.
Back to TV, she was in one episode of the TV series 'Edge of
Heaven' (2014) and then in 'God's Own Country' (2017). In between she
played different characters in 4 episodes of the TV series 'Doctors'
(2004-17) before playing the Museum Cleaning Woman in 'Ammonite' (2020),
a romantic film drama loosely inspired by the life of British
palaeontologist Mary Anning, played by Kate Winslet. Her last TV role
was in the series 'Moving On' (2021).
Taking a keen interest in interior design, for Sarah and husband Tony Bains, (they married in 1998 and have two children Ruby and Theo), it was love at first sight with their South Liverpool home, "despite the chintz-tastic décor". She said: "I love period properties and adored the ceiling heights, the size of the rooms and the garden." Their house has a rich history. It was built in the 1880s and was originally the stables and servants' quarters for the large Victorian villa next door. It was converted into a home in the 1930s. Sarah said: "The house still has an original 1930s bathroom, and all the original fixtures and fittings, which I love." They chose this location to start a family as the couple were living in Manchester at the time but Sarah was pregnant and wanted to be closer to home.
