Alexandra Fletcher was born on the 8th of July 1976 in Childwall, Liverpool, the oldest of four children. She was spotted as a presenter on the BBC kids show 'Why Don't You?', and without any real acting experience was given recurring contracts over the next three years to appear in 'Brookside' (1989-2003). Remarkably, at 16 and with six GCSEs, Alex showed some of the acumen displayed by businesswoman Jacqui in the soap and negotiated her own full contract. "I went to see the producer, Mal Young, after they'd offered me another recurring contract," she says. "Inside I was shaking, but it was my proudest moment because I'd negotiated it all by myself." She played the role of Jacqui Farnham (née Dixon) appearing in over 780 episodes up until the series finished in 2003.

She met Neil Davies when he joined the cast of Brookside in 2000 to play Robbie Moffat. At the time, he was in his final year of a physio degree, after his professional football career had been cut short due to injury. He was only supposed to be in one episode but was there for two years.
In the summer of 2001 the couple moved into their flat in Liverpool,
not far from the Mersey TV studios where they filmed the Channel 4 soap, to enjoy the honeymoon period of living together. They married on the 15th of March 2003 and following her role in Brookside, Alex made a number of other
television appearances, both in acting and presenting roles. These
include parts in 'M.I.T.: Murder Investigation Team' (2005), one episode
of 'Doctors' (2006), 'Suburban Mayhem' (2006), and 'Wake' (2007) and a
guest presenting role on the chat show 'Loose Women' (2003).
Neil was a key source of support when Alex fell into the doldrums a few years after having her daughter Yasmin, when she discovered getting back into work was not as simple as she had imagined. Alex said, "I lost a lot of confidence when I took time off with Yasmin. I was offered a two-year contract at 'The Bill' but I turned it down because I just wasn't ready to launch myself back into that full-on rat race again. And I thought I missed my opportunity. Looking back, it was the right decision. But at the time it was awful. It wasn't until Yasmin went to school that I seriously tried to turn things around. I trained as a fitness instructor to get my confidence back." The pair now have a son and a daughter together. Having taken some time away from acting in the late 2000s, she trained as a fitness instructor and qualified in 2009, and taught at a number of locations. During that period she seriously considering quitting the business but decided that she wanted to get back into acting so got herself a new agent to try to get her profile back out there again. After she did 'Master Chef', which she found doing something positive gave her some fire in her belly again, it made her think she wanted to do more.
as Diane Hutchinson in Hollyoaks |
Alex then I found out that her old boss from Brookside, Paul Marquess, was at Lime Pictures. They got the message over to him that she was back and wanting to work. Alex says, "I got a phone call saying that they wanted me to come in and read for a part in the new family. I honestly didn't get sent a script or anything and I didn't know what it was for, whether it was the new mum, or a sister role, a cameo role - I had no idea! When I came into Lime, they were casting quite a lot of people and I was up against some really strong actresses, so my heart sunk a little bit! I had to sing for my supper but in the end, I felt that I'd achieved something even better because I wasn't given it on a plate. I read for the part on a Friday and they told me that I had the role by Friday teatime."
Joining 'Hollyoaks' in August 2010 she was given the role of Dianne O'Connor, the wife of the deputy head of Hollyoaks High, who is desperate to have her
own children and struggling to cope with the rollercoaster of IVF. The O'Connors were a four-member Liverpudlian clan consisting of stepmother-of-two Diane, her husband Rob and his children Sinead and Finn. Diane would get caught in the middle of a toxic love triangle involving new husband Tony (Nick Pickard) and his dad, sinister doctor Edward (Joe McGann). There are rumours that she will be leaving the role of Diane Hutchinson after 14 years after removing Hollyoaks from her Instagram Bio, which had previously stated Hollyoaks but now says British actress followed by her agency.
