Pool Of Sound - HOLLOWBODY

The roots of 'HOLLOWBODY' grew from the writing partnership of Harry James (Vocals, Guitar) and Elliot Hughes (Bass) who had been playing together through years of different projects across Merseyside. Their writing coalesced and gave them a firm footing to launch the band from, which was originally a quartet in 2022 but later became 5 when Molly joined the band. At the start Harry and Elliott were joined by Jack Birkett (Lead Guitar) who they had played with several times before, then Matt Dixon (Drums) who knew Jack quite well and later by Molly Scott (Vocals, Synth). Each members' perspective and musical flavour now challenges and drives 'HOLLOWBODY's unique sound. With four single-releases under their belt, supporting incredible bands like 'October Drift', 'The Kairos' and 'Bar Staff', the band are preparing to sell out their third headliner, and release their debut EP this year. Blending stadium guitar riffs, toy-box synthesisers, bittersweet melodies and fuzzed up rhythm, 'HOLLOWBODY' brew an alternative sound that draws from Indie, Rock and Dance. Their songs revolve around clashes between trauma and joy; whether it be mental health, the throes of a relationship, or the absurdity that comes with growing up in the modern age.

It was on their Facebook page in November 2023 that they announced, "Absolutely delighted to announce Molly Scott will be joining us onstage at EBGBS' next week! 🎉 Buzzing to have her energy, vocals and synths skills with us - come see what a 5-piece HOLLOWBODY sounds like ❤️‍🔥" It was also that month that they launched their single 'Godspeed' which was reviewed by Jake Leeks at Boot Music, "it blends crisp production, catchy riffs and floating melodies. Throughout the track, vocalist Harry James explores feelings of existential uncertainty as he navigates life, 'stuck waiting for a call’ from the ‘big man up above'. Sonically, the song begins with a half time drumbeat, accompanied by vintage synths and plucky guitars, reflecting the themes of uncertainty displayed in the lyrics. Comparatively, the choruses adopt the classic Britpop sound familiar to us from bands such as 'The Royston Club' and 'Blur'. Distorted guitar power chords dominate the mix whilst trashy drumbeats provide rhythm, topped off with a strong vocal performance from Harry, who’s catchy vocal melodies are reminiscent of the classic 90s bands that formed the British rock scene 30 years ago and that is seemingly making a resurgence in modern British music today."

In July 2024 they posted on their Facebook page, "We are absolutely buzzing hosting our next headline gig at Kaz Stockroom in Liverpool. One of our first gigs was a support slot at the Kaz Stockroom back in 2022, and we are delighted to be back headlining this time round 🤘After our last two SOLD-OUT headline shows at The Jacaranda and EBGBS we cannot wait to throw another party with all of you guys. Support comes from the fabulous CHEERY." Premiered on the 5th of September 2024, to celebrate their 2nd birthday they treated themselves to a trip to shabby road studio in Southport to film a special live session. There they recorded four tracks with one being their take on the electronic 80's anthem 'Smalltown Boy' by 'Bronski Beat'. Then on the 5th of October 2024 they had their biggest headliner to date at Rough Trade, Liverpool supported by 'Wull' and 'Rioja'.
