Suzanne Maddock was born on the 13th of February 1976 in Liverpool and grew up in New Brighton, Merseyside, with her mother Rose, father Arthur, a local fisherman, elder brother
Arthur and sister Rosemarie. When Mary Austin, her A-level tutor at the Wirral Metropolitan College, pinned up a notice about an open audition for a female
lead in the Alan Bleasdale film, 'Blood On The Dole' (1994) which was to be shot
locally, it changed Suzanne's life.
The whole class attended but it was Suzanne who got the part. She says. "I just went to the audition because I had nothing better to
do and I wondered what it would be like. But I
kept getting recalled. And when I got the lead as Cathy I couldn't
believe what was happening to me. It wasn't like I'd ever
thought I'd be an actress. It was such a twist of fate." Suzanne spent her early adult life thinking she'd be a
teacher and gained 10 good GCSEs, with three A-levels, which she studied for
while filming 'Blood On The Dole'.
Instead of becoming a teacher she went on appear in 'Jake's Progress' (1995), the
Spanish Civil War movie 'Land and Freedom' (1995), before landing a part in
'Island' (1996-97), a children's TV drama set in Jersey, followed by another film 'Stella Does
Tricks' (1996). It was her next role as mechanic Janet Frazer in 10 episodes of 'Hetty Wainthropp Investigates' (1997-98), starring opposite Dominic Monaghan and Patricia Routledge, that saw her noticed more.
One fan was to become her boyfriend, builder Mike Rigg. "I'd fancied Mike since I was 14 because he's so good-looking," says Suzanne. "He was a friend of a friend but I never thought he'd look at me. I used to see the girls he went out with who were all tall, beautiful dancers and models and I thought, 'As if'. Then we met up at a party in February 1998 and chatted all night. I come from a very close-knit community and we found out we knew all the same people and just got on so well. He used to watch me on 'Hetty Wainthrop Investigates' but he didn't know it was me and when I told him he nearly died and said, `I know you, I love the programme.' "

as PC Cass Rickman |
Her best known role though was playing the part of chirpy and gung-ho Liverpudlian PC Cass Rickman in 'The Bill' (1999-2002). Cass Rickman, who grew up amongst a large family in a chaotic Liverpool terrace, had already been in the force for six years before coming to Sun Hill and she arrived at the station full of such tremendous energy and enthusiasm that some of the older stalwarts of the squad found it both exhausting and annoying. However, with her quick wit and lively nature, she rapidly made friends. Tragically, Cass met her untimely end in a highly rated story line as the final victim of the Sun Hill serial killer in late 2002. Following this she made the second of two guest appearances in 'Casualty' (1995-2005).
Suzanne met Matthew Grummett around this time, a West Ham supporter, and in 2008 both went on a 20 day trek in Nepal to get above Everest base camp at Kala Pattar raising money for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research. They have been married since March 15, 2011 and have two children. In 2019 it was announced she was playing theatrical agent Radleigh Carrere in the new comedy short film 'Acting Anecdotes with Jeremy Olivier'.
