'Little Furry Things' is an indie rock amalgamation of walls of fuzz, melody, and in-your-face noise, inspired by Weezer, Guided by Voices, and Black Flag. Formed in the mind, in 2012, as a recording project and imaginary band that lived inside of singer-songwriter Alex Hannah's head, 'Little Furry Things' is now a fleshed-out tour-de-force of a band who have followed up their 2020 debut EP release, 'Proof of Concept', with three new singles to stake their claim as the catchiest and noisiest band on Merseyside. The Liverpool-based, genre-bending outfit that now consists of Alex Hannah, John Smethurst, Sam Holmes and Oliver Stevens have returned in 2024 after a four year hiatus, with some "loud music to commute to".

Pressing play on 'Marmite' is a dense piece of noise rock that shines a light on the band’s refreshing approach to the genre. The band’s new single features all the familiar traits of noise rock: Searing distortion touches gloves with thudding drums as fuzzy vocals cut through it all with surgical precision. However, there is a clear distinction between the band's approach to the genre that draws a clear line in the sand between this band and their peers. There is a subtle jovial whimsy that makes it through the complex guitar melodies, courtesy of the nuanced vocal harmonies, giving 'Marmite' a distinct infectiousness. Just as you're floating away on the vocals, a scorching guitar solo brings you back into the band’s noise rock prowess. 'Marmite' is a refreshing take on noise-rock as 'Little Furry Things' blend their influences with their unique perspective via familiar distortion and otherworldly melodies. " 'Marmite' tells the story of when I was seven and rushed to hospital due to smashing my face against the school fence," explains Alex. "It resulted in me requiring stitches near my left temple and eye, and the song wistfully recalls holding my mum's hand when the needle was going in and out of my face."

Industry Plant |
In September 2024 their next single 'Industry Plant' was released, and straight upon pressing play the swift pangs of guitar from Sam Holmes hit the listener in the face, catching and keeping you following for the story that is about to be told. Alex Hannah’s gritty but soothing voice filters into the song, taking us back to early music of Dinosaur Jr (whose track 'Little Fury Things' may have influenced their artist name) with the tinny vocals and engaging riffs. But instead, 'Little Furry Things' give that sound a new life by taking a twist on it, telling the evocative journey of an ‘Industry Plant’. "I’ve done what you want, now I’ll wither away" perfectly encapsulates the feelings of being used and disposed, keeping this image of an abandoned and dying plant in the centre of the song. They use this as a motif for someone trying to make their way to commercial success.
