Miles Temp is a young singer songwriter from Liverpool who has been recording, releasing and performing original music since 2021 and has been admired for his songwriting. Miles said, "I started out on the Open Mic scene aged 15 and it’s been a whirlwind really. I’ve gained a healthy social media following already and had some pretty big support slots and my first headline show." In his song 'Heartbeat' he affirms 'there is a beauty in expressing emotions like this, a catharsis that many people will be able to relate to'. Indeed Donovan Livesey at Boot Magazine said in September 2022, "At just seventeen, Liverpool’s Miles Temp is quickly proving to be one of the city’s most promising talents. His single, 'Heartbeat' came out in September 24th 2023 and is a minimalist masterpiece - a strikingly raw and intimate exploration of love and loss delivered with a level of emotional depth that belies his age." Getting its debut play on BBC Merseyside Introducing by Dave Monks who stated 'beautiful that, we think the best so far from Miles Temp', and gaining reviews from Sun 13, Boot Magazine and All Indie Magazine being called 'a minimalist masterpiece' (Boot Magazine) and being compared to 'Conan Gray and Clario' as a 'indebted indie-pop burst' (Sun 13). He hit 15K streams on Spotify with his fourth track 'Polaroid Picture' as well as 12K on his first single 'The End?', gaining a fanbase of 400+ monthly listeners alongside 4k followers and 48k likes on TikTok. Miles has played at a variety of venues across Merseyside, including Arts Bar Baltic, Round the Corner, Prohibition Studios and Futureyard, selling out his first headline show at Ditto Coffee being 'the highlight of the night' having an 'extremely powerful voice' with songs that are 'so vulnerable and compelling' - (Rianne Downey).
After gaining a place on Sound City’s LAUNCH Artist Training & Development Programme in 2022, Miles played Sound City 2024 at The Jacaranda Basement, having a lock out, one in one out. at his debut festival gaining much support, being 'definitely on our radar and someone to watch for the future’ (Dave Pichilingi CEO Modern Sky/Sound City). He also supported Alex Spencer in the Kazimier Stockroom on October 1st on his Liverpool tour date.
Without a doubt he is one to keep a keen eye on in the music scene as he develops his sound through his moving vocals, acoustic and layers on the SPD 1 sample pad. Boot Magazine said, 'While live the added backing tracks that brought a cinematic edge to the biggest moment, with swirling strings and drum rhythms, added an extra layer of textural interest behind his acoustic playing and brought together a rapidly developing sound'. He supported 'The Beggs Sisters' on the 16th of November at Future Yard as well as playing at Ellis Murphy's presents alongside The Kowloons, James Jackson and Ellis Murphy on the 21st of November at Leaf, Bold Street. Praised by Sound City’s Dave Pichilingi for being ‘someone to watch for the future, an ambitious and talented young songwriter’ and attracting support from the likes of Billy Butler and BBC’s Dave Monks, Miles has a very promising future ahead of him and his single, 'Wasn’t There', was another masterpiece from a songwriter way ahead of his years and ahead of his Sound City debut in May 2024 where he opened the Jacaranda Stage. With powerful and evocative lyrics, breathtaking vocals reaching all sorts of notes and stunning guitar plucking, 'Wasn’t There' is a Miles Temp signature classic.
Sun 13, a Liverpool-based site which was born during the Covid-19 pandemic remarked, "Local music fans may have seen Miles play, as he plays many live shows around Merseyside, building up support the old fashioned way, through the twin auspices of graft and good songwriting. Miles’ last single, 'Wasn’t There', put us in mind of 'Radiohead', but with new single 'Heartbeat' he has left such comparisons behind. 'Heartbeat' is a mid-tempo number with what sounds like a full band backing. As such it is more upbeat and substantial than 'Wasn’t There'. 'Heartbeat' is a song by someone who knows the pain of lost love and who is able to project that anguish at the listener, a cornerstone of literally thousands of great songs....It is a brave move for someone primarily known as an acoustic singer songwriter to abandon all guitar on a record, but it works beautifully on 'Heartbeat'. It also begs the question of where Miles Temp will go next.'
Although a fresh, emerging talent, Miles has definitely found his style, with angelic vocals and harmonies layered over beautiful strumming and strings, often leading up to explosive crescendos. In this latest release, he ventures into new territory, exploring synths, extra vocals, and bass, aiming to capture vulnerability as a young singer-songwriter. The result is an ambitious and emotionally raw song that beautifully highlights his prowess as a songwriter, another masterpiece that captures the emotions.
